To activate MailShield's enterprise protection, you must direct your organisation's email traffic through our Secure Email Gateway (SEG). You achieve this by updating the DNS (Domain Name System) records hosted by your domain provider.
Think of DNS like the internet’s postal routing system. By updating your MX (Mail Exchange) records, you are instructing the internet to send all your incoming mail to our security filters first, stripping out phishing attempts, malware, and spam before delivering the clean mail to your actual inboxes.
The Universal Inbound Configuration
Regardless of which DNS provider you use, the core requirement for inbound filtering is the same. You must delete your existing MX records and replace them with the MailShield gateway.
If you leave your old MX records active alongside the MailShield records, spammers will detect the bypass and deliver malicious emails directly to your mail server, rendering your protection ineffective.
Required Inbound MX Record:
- Type:
MX - Name / Host:
@(or your root domain name) - Value / Points To:
seg-in.cadmuscyber.com(Note: Always verify your exact gateway address in the MailShield portal). - Priority:
10 - TTL:
3600(or 1 Hour / Automatic)
Provider-Specific Setup Guides
Because every DNS interface is slightly different, we have created step-by-step instructions for the most common providers. Click your provider below for a tailored guide on updating both your inbound (MX) and outbound (SPF/DKIM) records:
- Microsoft 365 & On-Premises Exchange (Includes cloud and self-hosted environments)
- Google Workspace (If your DNS is managed via Google Domains / Workspace)
- GoDaddy
- Cloudflare
- Zoho Mail
- cPanel / Shared Hosting
If your provider is not listed above, use the "Universal Inbound Configuration" values to update your MX records in your provider's DNS management portal.
Verifying Your DNS Changes
DNS changes are not instantaneous. Depending on your provider, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours for the new routing instructions to propagate globally across the internet.
During this transition, your email flow will not be interrupted. Some mail will arrive via the old route, and some will begin filtering through MailShield.
To check your status:
- Log into the MailShield portal and navigate to Domains.
- Click Fix MX Records next to your pending domain.
- Click the Run DNS Verification button.
Our system actively polls global DNS servers and will automatically verify your domain and secure your dashboard once propagation is complete.
