After updating your domain's DNS settings at your registrar (like GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or cPanel), you need to verify the changes in MailShield so our gateway can officially begin filtering your incoming mail.
Understanding DNS Propagation
When you change an MX record, you are updating the internet's global address book. This process is not instant. It is perfectly normal for these changes to take anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours to spread across the globe.
How to verify your domain
- Log into your MailShield dashboard and navigate to the Domains page.
- Domains with pending DNS changes will have an MX Unverified badge (or you might see a yellow "Action required" alert on your main dashboard). Click the Fix now link next to the domain.
- You will be taken to the DNS Verification dashboard. If you leave this page open on Step 2, MailShield will automatically poll the internet every 30 seconds to check if your new records have been detected.
- If you prefer, you can manually trigger a check by clicking the Run DNS Verification button.
What the system checks
During the verification, MailShield looks for two main things:
- MX Records: It confirms that your primary Mail Exchange record is pointing exactly to the MailShield inbound gateway with a priority of
10. - SPF Record: It checks your Sender Policy Framework (TXT) record to ensure the MailShield gateway is included as an authorised sender.
Once the system detects the correct records, you will see a green success screen. Your domain's status will instantly change to MX OK, and inbound email protection is officially active.
